Laser Frequently Asked Questions
|
.
The difference between Laser and electrolysis is that electrolysis is an
invasive technique in which a needle penetrates deep through the skin
into the hair follicle. Laser hair removal procedure is non-invasive
technique needing no needle to be inserted in the body the only thing
penetrating into the skin is the laser light energy.
Laser therapy is a safe, effective, and commonly used treatment,
providing optimal results in areas such as the removal of unwanted hair,
skin rejuvenation for sun damage, wrinkle reduction, and veins.
Lasers work by delivering an intense beam of light that is absorbed by
the skin. This light is converted to heat and is absorbed by the cells being
targeted, while leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected. Candela lasers
feature a patented skin-cooling device for even greater comfort and safety.
Is the technician certified? YES! Each technician has received certified
training from Candela with updated continuing education and advanced
classes. A physician and nurse supervise the treatments.
What can I expect during treatment? Shave the area prior to treatment.
Do not wax or pluck for 4 weeks prior to treatment. You will wear safety eye
wear to protect your eyes from the laser light. Your practitioner will guide
the laser to the treatment areas with a small hand piece. Each laser pulse
may be preceded by a short pulse of cooling spray. A treatment could take
as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the area
and condition being treated.
Does it hurt? Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with each laser
pulse, sometimes described as the snapping of a rubber band on the
skin. This discomfort resolves in several seconds and is minimized by
Candela’s DCD cooling. For some patients. a special device that protects
the skin during treatment makes the procedure virtually pain free.
What will my skin look like after
treatment? The device that protects the
skin leaves the skin a little pink for a few
minutes. Blood thinning medication
such as aspirin, and alcohol can result
in minimal bruising. Bruising is
possible, not probable. If the area is too
small to use the skin protecting device
then cryogen will be used. After
treatment with cryogen the skin may
appear red and follicle edema may be
present. This can last from 5 minutes to
a few hours so you may want to plan
your schedule accordingly.
How many treatments will I need? For
hair removal, multiple treatments are
required, as
the process is most effective when the
hair follicle is in its active growth phase.
Many factors impact the efficacy of
individual laser treatments, including the
severity of the condition being treated.
Six treatments are usually needed.
How do I prepare for treatment? You
should avoid plucking, electrolysis or
hair waxing for six weeks prior to
treatment? You should shave the
morning of your treatment, and your skin
should clean and dry. Remove all make
up and lotion. Avoid tanning and the use
of self tanning products prior to
treatment.
Can I have more than one area treated
at the same time? Yes, you can safely
treat as many areas as you like. We can
combine multiple laser treatments .
